This collection includes miscellaneous materials collected from numerous sources by Michael Amdahl, a Refuse Transfer Center worker who collected and donated found materials over the course of many years. Included in this collection are a variety of graphic materials, letters, documents, magazines, and a book on the 13th Air Force. Also included are photographs depicting war-torn cities, soldier life, sea and air vessels, and scenery from around Europe.

Scope and Contents

The Sylwester B. Knap papers contain an oral history transcript and a political prisoner certificate. Knap's oral history focuses on his childhood during the time World War II began in Europe which includes attempting to find refuge in Czestochowa, his experiences in the Gross-Rosen concentration camp, forced labor, mistreatment, camp selections, contracting Typhus, liberation, becoming wounded, finding his family after the war, his uncles involvement in the resistance movement, and his feelings toward talking about the war.

This collection relates to Everett Melvin O'Brien who served as a 1st Lieutenant with the 603rd Quartermaster Graves Registration Company in the European Theater during World War II. The collection contains photographs from O'Brien's service in Graves Registration in the U.S., France, Belgium, and Germany which include killed in action U.S. soldiers and graves. Photographs of the concentration camp at Dachau are also included.
